I have been to The French Horn in Sonning on many occasions however it must be at least 5 years since my last visit. Happily on this visit nothing seemed to have changed – including the waiters and the fantastic food. The French Horn’s ethos is straightforward:
Our approach to food is refreshingly simple. We take the best possible seasonal ingredients, chosen when they are at their very peak, and then create classic dishes that allow the quality of those ingredients to speak eloquently for themselves
On arrival we were greated by the smell of duck roasting on the rotisserie in front of the open fire, without looking at the menu I knew what my main course was going to be.

Dessert proved to be a far more difficult decision. I had opted to share a dessert, but was persuaded by the waiter to have one of my own. My bread and butter pudding was a dream, smothered in custard and with a hint of marmalade coming from within the soft, sponge-like bread.

My memories of The French Horn are restored and I would recommend a trip there for lunch or dinner. I just hope my next visit is sooner than 5 years.
